Dresses for Weddings: May Edition
There are lots of weddings coming, and more guests scrambling to find dresses for weddings. As was the intention of the blog, many of my readers are looking for dresses for a wedding to wear as a wedding guest, so I try to have plenty of styled collages on that subject in addition to The Boutique, which is a shoppable area of the site for wedding guests. But each month brings new weddings and styles, so I’m going to endeavor to bring you shoppable posts that show styles for daytime weddings for the month ahead. I may be a little late for May, but just in case some of you are procrastinators like I am; here’s the May edition!
Daytime Wedding Guest Dresses
Daytime styles are often interchangeable with dressy casual styles, garden wedding styles, or outdoor wedding attire – especially during summer months. A light flowy material or a dressy cotton in a bright color is usually perfect for a morning daytime wedding. These all look like the ideal choices for a spring time wedding: cheery colors, appropriate styles, and just the right amount of formality. Throw on your favorite pearls or accessories with these, and you’re ready for the ceremony and reception.
Cocktail Reception Wedding Guest Dresses
I’ve already posted a few suggestions for springtime cocktail attire ideas this month, but there are so many great cocktail dresses to choose from, I don’t mind compiling a few more. One can often go with a dark color for cocktail attire year ’round, but with spring and summer approaching I like to take the challenge and find springtime colors in rich fabrics. the first dress in a rich yellow brocade is perfect – an evening fabric in a spring color. Pile on gold or diamonds and formal accessories to solidify this as an evening wedding look. Since it does dual purpose, it would be idea for a late afternoon wedding where the reception will go into evening.
Evening Formal Wedding Guest Dresses
As I’ve mentioned in the attire guidelines, formal evening wedding invitations with black tie requests usually require a floor length gown. However, in the spring, or at slightly relaxed formal settings it’s understood that deep or neutral colors can be a guideline but that a brightly hued gown won’t be out of place. After all, we now see coral and bright pink gowns at gala red carpet events. So with pale blue, a zingy coral, and vibrant cobalt I’m giving you few spring-like color choices for a formal wedding.
